Encaustic
Encaustic art is a fascinating method of making pictures with molten wax, using a low heat iron.
From the moment I touch the wax block onto the surface of the warm iron I am enchanted as it melts
into liquid color before my eyes.а As I spread the color over the sealed card, foam-core board, or ceramic tile
I create breathtaking effects.
Encaustic is an age-old technique using heat as a "solvent".
Each picture holds your attention and stimulates your imagination.
" Encaustic is more like an alchemic involvement than a painting form.". Those words are more true
than you can imagine. Michael Bossom, of encaustic.com hit the nail on the head when he described this art form
as "being involved with something one expects to be an inert material, but then discovering that itа
actually almost has a life of it's own can be very strange at times.".
Encaustic has brought back my childhood enthusiasm for the fun things in life.
The following pictures will give you and idea of how the process is done:

As you can see I use an old GE iron(before steam holes were invented).
I use a hot air gun and the iron to manipulate the wax.
